Meeting Minutes, April 6, 2026
Police Report
Officer Rosa delivered the report:
- Shoplifting at Walgreens is up significantly. 14 calls in last month, resulting in 2 arrests
- Several package thefts in the area. Police suggest using alternative delivery options (e.g., at local businesses) rather than having packages delivered to home
- April 2: Shooting on Atherton St around 4-5am. House struck by one round. No injuries
- April 1: Robbery and stabbing at School & Washington St around 1:30am. Victim self-transported to the hospital
There was some discussion of other issues we are seeing in the neighborhood. Juan-Carlos mentioned loitering has not been much of an issue in Egleston Square yet; the bigger focus has been on ICE presence in the area
Updates & Announcements.
- Next Tuesday from 5-7pm, the Friends of the Egleston Parks is having a celebration at the Greater Egleston High School. There has been a substantial donation made through the Boston Foundation to support activities in the parks. More information will be provided at the event for how to access those funds for events
- An application will also be available online to submit ideas for a community grant for funding events. https://friendsofeglestonparks.com/
- April 11, there is a beer tasting trolley tour. Egleston Square Main Street is sponsoring this in collaboration with other Main Street organizations in the area
- Santander Bank will be moving its location, effective June 30. It is the only bank within easy walking distance of Egleston Square. Several neighbors shared info from the letter they received from Santander Bank; they were surprised the bank was closing. The letter said the Egleston branch would merge with the Santander branch on Martin Luther King Blvd. Alvin pointed out that there was a big community push to get a bank located in Egleston Square back when Egleston Center was built in the mid-1990s.
- Several neighbors raised concerns about this, as the bank is used by both residents and merchants.
- Juan-Carlos of Egleston Square Main Street was not aware of the bank’s closing. He will check with Urban Edge (which owns the building) about this.
- Several neighbors and Juan-Carlos will try to speak with the branch manager to express their concern.
- Rep. Montaño said she will work with Ben Weber’s office to send a letter to the bank’s Governmental Affairs division
- Chris reported that Caroline Peters is no longer with the City’s Office of Neighborhood Services. Cecily Graham is temporarily covering that position.
- Chris noted virtually all street transportation safety projects have been put on pause by Mayor Wu. This includes the Egleston Square Redesign.
- Chris and Carolyn shared their impressions of the Franklin Park Capital Project Fair, held at the Golf Clubhouse on March 19. There were informative displays and a chance to talk with staff about various projects: Ellicott Arch, Shattuck Picnic Grove Tennis Court Expansion, Bear Den Safety Improvements, Invasive Species Removal, Dog Park proposal, Circuit Drive Traffic Calming, and White Stadium construction. It was an excellent way to hear about the various projects underway in the Park.
